5th Kiel OCEAN PARADE!

Accompanied by walking acts and drumming, we'll march through the city in a colorful, loud, and joyful display to protect the oceans. Everyone, near and far, individuals, organizations, and institutions alike, is invited to join us in giving the oceans the attention they need to safeguard our lives and the lives of future generations. We'll start at 2 pm at the sailing camp, proceed along the Kiel waterfront, through the city center, and back to the sailing camp. Make signs, dress up in costumes, and get moving – participation is what counts! Anyone who wants to get creative and colorful is warmly invited to join the creative workshop starting at noon: painting signs, face painting, and much more.

Next stop: Reventloubrücke, Line 71

What is CINEMARE?

ACT

In 2016, CINEMARE was launched under the patronage of Mayor Dr. Ulf Kämpfer, with Kiel taking a pioneering role with its motto #MarineConservationCity. The CINEMARE Marine Film Festival sees itself not only as part of its home city's maritime profile but also as an ambassador for marine conservation beyond national borders. With its three main focuses—marine conservation, science communication, and art—the festival positions itself as a significant part of the maritime heritage and a promoter of environmental protection.

As Northern Europe's only multi-day ocean film festival, CINEMARE is a member of the Green Film Network (GFN), an international association of currently 38 film festivals with an environmental focus. It is regionally rooted and internationally connected, as demonstrated by its official partnership with the IOFF International Ocean Film Festival San Francisco. This partnership marked the beginning of a successful cultural exchange in 2018 within the framework of the city partnership between San Francisco and Kiel. Since then, CINEMARE has also been a network partner of the German Ocean Decade Committee.

From the outset, CINEMARE has pursued an interdisciplinary approach, extending its reach beyond traditional cinema screens to include film screenings in museums, video art, exhibitions, and educational school screenings. Driven by the conviction that only what is valued can be protected, the festival aims to foster awareness of and love for the ocean and to encourage people to actively participate in its protection.

The films promise not only captivating stories and breathtaking footage from the depths of the oceans, but also offer a unique artistic perspective on the beauty and fragility of our marine environment. The CINEMARE Film Festival provides an open platform for all film enthusiasts, from amateur filmmakers to professional cinematographers.

Protecting the oceans is a global concern, crucial for preserving biodiversity, stabilizing the climate, and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come. At CINEMARE, we've made it our mission to raise awareness of this issue!

Education

The Marine Film Festival serves as a powerful platform to raise awareness of ocean conservation and to bring the beauty and importance of marine habitats to a wider audience. Through inspiring films and events, visitors are encouraged to actively engage in ocean conservation and to integrate sustainable changes into their own lifestyles.

"In its core competency as a "cinema of the seas", CINEMARE offers a unique platform for filmmakers, artists and scientists.
